How to get involved at the Border:
CARA Family Detention Project |
The CARA Family Detention Project is looking for volunteers now and indefinitely. Their greatest need is for attorneys, law students, and paralegals. If you are non-spanish speaking, find an interpreter friend to join in!
For the month of July, CARA is asking for attorneys to attend orientation on Sunday at 5pm through Friday at 6pm. Please contact Crystal Massey to get involved! [email protected] |

Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center is currently involved in defending parents. Every single detention center case that Las Americas has done has been pro-bono. In order to increase the amount of cases that can be done pro-bono, their surrounding community of El Paso, Texas has started a fundraiser! If you are interested in donating, click here.
If you are interesting in trying cases or submitting appeals (which can be done remotely) for Las Americas, please contact Linda Rivas! [email protected] The Migrant Center for Human Rights is looking for attorneys who are interested in taking pro-bono cases. Please make sure to alert them of your experiences with asylum seekers, human rights issues, brief writing, trial/appellate court litigation, and clients who may be traumatized. Some of this work can be done remotely! If you are interested, or would like more information on their specific needs for an attorney, please click here or contact Sara Ramey. [email protected] The Diocesan Migrant & Refugee Services is in urgent need for temporary lawyers and caseworkers. DMRS is also taking contact information from lawyers who wish to volunteer with familial separation at the border, as they are currently setting up a program to present Know Your Rights as well as conduct individual intake meetings at the Emergency Shelter. Once their program is set up, they will use the contact information collected to coordinate volunteers!
In the meantime, DMRS is asking for emails and calls to representatives, as well as monetary donations. Please contact Catherine Hudak to get involved. [email protected] |
