Executive Orders Explained - English & Spanish

Things are rapidly changing with the implementation of these Executive Orders.  Below is general information.  Please consult with a trusted immigration attorney if you are making any travel plans.  We will work to update this page as new information becomes available.

What Do the Executive Orders Change for Immigration Law?
  1. ​Ban entry of all individuals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days or longer
  2. Ban on entry of all refugees for 120 days or longer
  3. Ban on entry of Syrian refugees indefinitely
  4. Making all immigrants a priority for the U.S. Immigration and Customs (ICE) Enforcement including those who have been charged with a crime even if they have not been convicted
  5. Increases the use of a process for removal of immigrants from the United States without the opportunity to see an immigration judge if when apprehended they are not able to prove that they have been in the U.S. for at least 2 years
  6. Mandatory minimum sentences for illegal reentry
  7. Pressures local law enforcement to increase immigration enforcement
What Can We Do Now?
  1. Gather documents immediately to prove that you have been in the United States for at least two years. Scan and copy such documents and have it available in various formats and in various places.  Carry this documentation with you.
  2. Establish an emergency plan now in the event that you are detained by ICE or Border Patrol
  3. Avoid negative interactions with law enforcement. However, report crimes if you are a victim.
  4. Stay tuned to hear more about the continuation of DACA; no changes have been made yet
  5. Do not travel outside of the U.S. if you are from any of the banned countries (even if you have a green card or a valid visa)
  6. Carry your green card or Employment Authorization Document with you at all times. Keep extra copies of them at home, in your car, or in other safe places
  7. Call and write your Congressman to express your opposition to the Executive Orders

¿Qué cambian las órdenes ejecutivas para la ley de inmigración?
  1. Prohíben la entrada de cada individuo de Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, y Yemen por 90 días o más
  2. Prohíben la entrada de todos los refugiados por 120 días o más
  3. Prohíben la entrada de todos los refugiados de Syria por un tiempo indefinido
  4. Convierten a todos los inmigrantes en una prioridad de ejecución de U.S. Immigration and Customs Enformcement (ICE), incluyendo personas que han sido acusados de un crimen, incluso si no han sido condenados

¿Qué podemos hacer ahora?
  1. Recoge de inmediato los documentos para probar que has estado en EEUU por dos años como mínimo.  Escanea y copia aquellos documentos, y tenlos disponibles en varios formatos y en varios lugares.  Anda estos documentos contigo.
  2. Establece un plan de emergencia ahora en caso de que ICE o Border Patrol te detenga.
  3. Evita interacciones negativas con la policía.  Sin embargo, reporta crímenes si eres víctima.
  4. Mantente pendiente para saber más sobre la continuación de DACA; no se ha hecho ningún cambio todavía.
  5. No viajes fuera de EEUU si vienes de uno de los países prohibidos (incluso si tienes una tarjeta verde o una visa vigente).
  6. Anda tu tarjeta verde o permiso de trabajar contigo en todo momento.  Guarda copias extra en la casa, en el coche, y en otros lugares seguros.
  7. Llama y escribe a tu congresista para expresar tu oposición a las órdenes ejecutivas.
  8. Mantente pendiente para información sobre talleres sobre el Poder de Abogado.
