MICA Project co-founders, Nicole Cortés and Jessica Mayo were recently named as “Up & Coming Lawyers” by Missouri Lawyers Weekly.  In conjunction with the recognition, Nicole and Jessica will be honored at a reception on September 13th along with other Missouri lawyers named to the list.  “Up & Coming Lawyers” recognizes the state’s premier lawyers that are younger than 40 years old (or within their first 10 years of practice) and are making a positive difference in the quality of justice while exemplifying the highest ideals of the legal profession.

In 2012, Nicole Cortés and Jessica Mayo co-founded the MICA Project, a community organization committed to working with low-income immigrants to overcome barriers to justice.  They currently serve as co-directors of the organization, working with clients from immigrant communities throughout St. Louis, southern Illinois and southeastern Missouri.

Nicole Cortés graduated from Washington University in 2012 with a Masters of Social Work and her Juris Doctorate.  Prior to co-founding the MICA Project, she worked with the organizations Interfaith Legal Services of Immigrants, Places for People/Community Alternatives and the Migrant Legal Assistance Project of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago.

Jessica Mayo graduated from the Washington University School of Law in 2012, and has extensive experience working with nonprofit organizations across the country.  Prior to co-founding the MICA Project, she spent time working at Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Interfaith Legal Services for Immigrants and the Law Offices of Suzanne Brown.
